The Montreal Expos began their baseball life as a National League expansion team in 1969. Named in honor of the Expo 67 World’s Fair, the Expos debuted on April 8, 1969, where they beat the hometown New York Mets at Shea Stadium by the score of 11-10. The Expos played in Montreal from 1969 to 2004, eventually moving south where they became the Washington Nationals. The Montreal Expos captured no National League pennants or World Series titles during their existence, but did win a divisional crown in 1981.
